Ask Denise: Is My System Broken?

Q: “Denise, I have been working on my systems with my team. We have a system for buyer closings which includes a closing gift. This closing gift is right there on my team’s closing checklist, but I realized this morning that no one had bought it. Clearly my system isn’t working. Help!”

A: Your system just needs one tweak and that is to assign the person responsible for making sure you have the closing gift and the timeline for having it in your hands. The second piece you need reporting from your team members. How can you make sure everything is staying on track? By having your team members report into you either weekly or daily – whatever is appropriate – on the projects and tasks that are in their court and the status. This way you can quickly spot any red flags.
