Ask Denise: To Knock or Not to Knock?

Q: “Denise, I understand you are not a big fan of door knocking, but when I hold an open house, I regularly spend about an hour letting the neighbors know in-person that I am holding an open house, to expect extra traffic, and to let them know they are welcome to drop by. Do you think I should stop doing this? I like it, but don’t want to do it if there is a strong reason not to.”

I want to make it clear that door knocking for the purpose of connecting with someone to list their property was not a good fit for me and my business. But I hear from agents all the time that it is something they do, they enjoy, and have success with. That is the beauty of real estate! No two people have to do it the same way.

I also like the way you are door knocking – it is not about you getting a sale…it is about you being of service. I think that is an important distinction.

You have obviously found something that works for you. Carry on!
