Q: Denise, my business is getting a little – no, a LOT – busier in the last six months and I’m thinking of taking on a business partner. This is a huge step for me, and I want to get it right. Any suggestions for things to look out for?
A: Congratulations on being busy! That’s great, and I’m glad to hear it. I’m also glad you’re thinking and planning for your increased workload, rather than getting overwhelmed by it. There are two pieces of advice I have for you. #1: If you do go the route of getting a partner, be sure you both sign a written partnership agreement that provides structure to and rules around your partnership. As I like to say, “Agreements prevent disagreements.” #2: Take a good, hard look at whether you are better served with a partner or an assistant. In many cases (in fact, in most cases) an assistant is a far better solution to the challenges that come with an increasingly busy real estate business.
