Q: I’m being wooed by a broker who wants to very quickly attract really great agents to her office, which she’s just opened. Any advice?
A: It’s always flattering to be wanted, but I want to encourage you to do your research if you’re seriously considering making a move. What does the new office offer that you can’t find at your current office? Better marketing? More money? Improved technology? Increased market share? Many brokers will make verbal promises during recruiting that they’re not committed to keeping once agents are on board. Just as in real life when you “date” before making a life-long commitment, I suggest you have a series of meetings with the broker to “date” them before making the leap. Ask for copies of your broker contract, office policies, and any promises that the broker has communicated to you – in writing – before you make a move.
