Q: I’ve recently left a long-time career as a teacher.  Is there a way to use my past teaching background to help me get some business?  While I like real estate, I do miss some of the parts of my old job.  Any ideas you can send my way would be appreciated.

A:  Congratulations on your new work life!  And you bet – you absolutely can put your skills as a teacher to work in real estate.  You would be a natural to take advantage of offering seminars to first-time buyers.  Prospective clients who have never purchased a home before definitely need education – something you’re skilled at delivering.  The other great thing about prepping for these classes is that it forces you to really master your topic.  For newer agents (who often feel they don’t “know enough”), this is a great way to help build your expertise.  Many states offer first-time home buyer training certification – check your state to see if a program like this is available in your area.
